The Division of Power Engineering has been constantly transforming and adapting itself to stay foremost in Power and Energy Research. Our professors actively contribute to influencing global and national research trends for Sustainable Earth, particularly in areas such as alternative energy, distributed power generation, energy efficiency, reduction of greenhouse gases, global warming, and climate change. Our research activities reflect the emerging technologies in power and energy while capitalizing on our traditional core competencies in Electrical Power Systems and Power Electronics.
Our goal in Power and Energy Research is to develop devices and intelligent systems from concept to commercialization, in a multi-disciplinary and holistic manner, for the efficient and clean generation, storage, delivery and utilization of electrical power and energy, towards the vision of Sustainable Energy Economy.
This is being realized through our three strategic inter-disciplinary Research Areas:
- Clean and Renewable Energy Systems
- Intelligent Energy Distribution and Storage
- Efficient Energy Conversion and Utilization
- Power Systems and power Electronics
Overview of Power and Energy Research
Our Power and Energy Research is well funded in projects in efficient solar energy based systems for water production, intelligent energy distribution and storage systems, wind and marine renewable energy systems, and power drive trains for electric al mobility. Our Laboratories for Smart Energy Systems provide state-of-the-art facilities, and host many R&D activities, many of which are also affiliated to the University-level Energy Research Institute @ NTU(ERIAN). Collectively, the Laboratories also function as a virtual Centre for Smart Energy Systems (CSES) to translate research to industrial innovations in energy-related applications , and to promote education and professional services in these areas.
